Mitch Kess - Bio

Mitch Kess’ latest political, rock musical The Deciders had a staged reading at Dixon Place in December 2007. A run is in production for the spring of 2008. The music of The Deciders reached a wide range of New York City audiences throughout the summer of 2007 from political rallies in Union Square Park to downtown and uptown rock clubs. The Deciders is the third part of a trilogy beginning in 2004 with Saddamn The Musical‚ which was inspired by a Newsweek article that revealed just prior to the US invasion Saddam's first novel was being made into a musical in Baghdad by the Iraqi National  Theater.  A Village Voice Choice and featured in the Sunday New York Times, Saddamn‚ was produced by the 92nd Street Y at the Makor and performed to standing room only crowds at the Medicine Show Theater.

Part one of The Last American, The Mind Viewing Machine, Mitch's first rock musical was produced at Baby Jupiter. Part two of The Last American,The Universal Mind was produced by Dixon Place at the Vineyard  Theater. A concert version uniting both parts was produced by The Public Theater at Joe's Pub. Songs from The Last American have been played by local bands in New York City and were most recently heard at a Hurricane Katrina benefit. Mitch's dramatic plays include Transition and No Oxygen and on the more humorous side, the underground video Defrost. His sketch comedy has been performed by the New York City based comedy team The Lab  Rats. Mitch has performed with numerous bands and as a singer-songwriter. He studied guitar with Dave van Ronk. As a bass player, he has played in a range of styles, from classical and jazz to rock with such New York based groups as The Gentz, The Owls and The Rough Riders. Mitch has led The Last American and The Deciders bands in theater productions and at local clubs.
